Review on Automatic Smart Battery Charger/Maintainer With Winter Mode - Ampeak 2/8/15A 12V by Raymond Wade

Get this smart charger!

I purchased a "STANLEY BC25BS Fully Automatic 25 Amp 12V Bench Battery Charger/Maintainer with 75A Engine Start, Alternator Check, Cable Clamps" charger prior to this one and was VERY dissatisfied with its software, display, clamps and case design. Ordered thia 2/10/25a Ampeak to try. I'm VERY HAPPY with it so far! Have repaired 1 ATV battery with its de-sulphate function that the Stanley spent 2 weeks on with no fix. Ran Ampeak's "Battery Repair" function 3 times and now capacity IS restored, resting voltage of 12.7 volts and 100% capacity. I have 3 other batteries the Stanley failed to restore and can't wait to try this Ampeak on them. The Ampeak's display STAYS backlit the WHOLE TIME its in use where the Stanley goes dark after approx 30 seconds, VERY IRRITATING. The Ampeak's clamps are comfortable, feel tough will open wide for car batteries but are compact enough to get to terminals on motorcycle/atv battery while installed! AWESOME! The Stanley's are big, fat wide and are cumbersome, had to use smaller jumper wires to charge while installed. The Ampeak's software gives the display constant info of better use than the Stanley and you can SELECT THE CHARGE RATE where on the Stanley you have NO CHOICE, its automatic. The Ampeak also lets you CHOOSE battery type, "Standard/AGM or GEL". The Stanley has NO OPTIONS. The Ampeak's case has a handle on the top and is easy to carry and place under-hood while the Stanley has finger loops on the front making it awkward to carry and place while in use, It would be fine if ONLY used on a bench for ONLY car batteries. The ONLY reasons I gave 4 stars on the Ampeak is you need a magnifying glass to read the micro-instruction book and the only way I've found to reset the unit after it flags a "Failed Battery" Test is to unplug, wait for unit to discharge and display to turn off, then plug back in, THEN restart "Repair" or Charge cycle. It NEEDS a software change to be able to reset using buttons on front. Overall I'm VERY SATISFIED with it so far. Time will tell on its durability.
