You're fine if you don't mind piercing the filter.
I bought these to remove oil filters in hard to reach places. In most cases I have to push very hard to grab the oil filter. Not only does this hurt my hands, but it also breaks through the filter and drips the oil onto the floor. My belt keys work better.
