Review on 🌈 Montessori Educational Toy: XJYQJD Rainbow Stacking Wooden Building Blocks for 3-Year-Old Boys and Girls - Ideal Gift by Dawn Jackson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The juxtaposition of half gloss lacquered and half matte lacquered parts is a bit strange.

They are similar to Grimm's rainbow block mini set except the color scheme is a hodgepodge of matte and gloss pieces. Basically, half of the blocks are painted with glossy color and the other half are matte. This tends to result in a mismatched appearance as gloss is very glossy and reflects light while matte is matte and absorbs light. You would think that the designer would have made them all glossy or matte. I've attached a video showing the alternating glossy and matte pieces. That design flaw aside, this is a nice set. The minimalist and simple look of these rainbow blocks is good for imagination, creative play and development. It also requires a certain amount of imagination and patience to enjoy these blocks. My 1 year old loves the stones simply because they are bright and easy to hold. My 3 year old doesn't have the patience or hand eye coordination to build or stack them vertically. But my 4-year-old son has the patience to enjoy the creative aspect of these bricks, at least when his younger siblings aren't trying to turn things around. I think these blocks require a certain level of independence, creativity and coordination and may not be suitable for younger toddlers. Also, these blocks are very similar to Grimm's mini rainbow blocks, but at a lower price. The parts fit together well and the finish is fine as you would expect from the photos. The wooden pieces are quite strong and I have no issues with the quality of the breaking blocks. Overall good design and playability for an older child. However, if you're concerned about small details like mismatched paintwork, this set may not be the best for you.
