I am a woman who does not pretend to be tech savvy. I hope this helps people like me. The instructions were clear and simple. For those who feel this isn't clear enough, it's a modem (connects to your internet cable from the wall) and your WiFi router (connects your devices to the internet wirelessly), so you don't need a second device . You should research whether it is better to have one device or two separate devices and decide what is best for you. To get started, connect the device to an internet cable, plug in the power cord, turn it on, and wait for the blinking lights to come on. You then follow the instructions to go to the tplink website, enter your username and password and change your own preferred username and password in the WiFi settings. At the moment all my devices (MacBook Air, HP PC, iPhone 7Plus and Vizio TV) are connected without any problems. You'll see two options for connecting this device in your network list.
