I bought this extension because we live on wheels and our son got us a Nintendo Switch for Christmas. We only have one TV and we use our hotspot to connect to the internet when it's available. Sometimes I connect my laptop directly to my TV with an HDMI cable to watch online TV shows. We are tired of using Kindle Firestick and Chromecast because sometimes there are issues with apps that drive us crazy. You get a new update and it messes everything up, or the apps you can use through Chromecast are outdated and not working. It's annoying so I went back to the old fashioned wire system. Since we connect an HDMI cable to my laptop quite often, I didn't want to ruin the HDMI port on the Switch by constantly yanking on it to disconnect. Then press on it to bring the thing back there. This constant tension will eventually result in the connector not mating properly. Just like the cell phone can no longer be connected to charge at some point. We put this extension in our Switch and it will get voltage damage instead. It's permanent and will stay there until it stops working and I get another one. If ever it stops working but everything works. It works very well for our needs, but I will say we get static at times. However, this is only for a moment. It's not the HDMI cable itself, since we never have static electricity when we connect it to a computer and TV. This applies ONLY when connected to a switch extension. Before we got this extension, the switch never had static electricity when HDMI was connected directly to the switch, so this is a bug. It really depends on what you need it for, but for the price and value I'd say it's a good buy. I'm concerned about very random static, but it wasn't a problem if it lasted more than 2-3 seconds at a time. Then he doesn't do it for hours, so that's just a note for some of you.
