Review on πŸ“» Retevis RT72 Long Range Walkie Talkie, Digital and Analog Dual Band Two Way Radio, SMS 4000CH, 1800mAh Battery, Digital Walkie Talkie with 250 Zone Group Call (1 Pack) by Ayush Bonuccelli

Great hardware, crappy CPS software, and mediocre software on the device itself.

Looks like a solid radio but not heavy. The actual hardware just works and seems powerful. The CPS software doesn't make it easy to create channels and the descriptions are terrible. There aren't any videos or blogs on YouTube that could help you. There is no community I could find. Retevis only has one version of CPS and no firmware updates, I'm afraid they won't get much love fixing the quirks. The software of the radio looks cheap. Small quirks are everywhere and not very intuitive. I haven't found a mini USB cable suitable for programming yet. It comes with a Kenwood style programming cable which they forgot to mention. The GPS feature uses a DMR access point or repeater to operate. APRS seems to work, but only digitally. I'm sure this radio has a lot more to offer, but Ailunce/Retevis doesn't offer any support. All in all, this might be a great radio, but nobody seems to care about improving the software. If I could code I would at least make a CPS where you can copy, paste and move channels around to organize things better. Or even import CSV files. It should also be noted that while you can import DMR contacts, it doesn't work as you might think. I have at most one callsign and one name for a radio ident.
