Review on Astro 78618 Brake Caliper Tool by Matt Hamilton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good useful tool for a homemade mechanic

I bought this tool kit to roll some front calipers (which are not keyed). The tool is easy to use and beats using a block of wood and a clamp. Two plungers are stamped "L" and "R" so you know which one to use for button actuation. The screws move easily so they are very easy to turn. Remember to check the brake fluid level before entering a corner. I didn't (got too carried away with this tool) and ended up flooding my entire shop with brake fluid. I have not used this item for my rear brake yet. But I have no doubt that it will work and will work well. There are many different key bits for all types of vehicles. This tool comes with a small piece of paper listing all the vehicles it works on. I'll post later when I'm home. The only two negatives I have: 1) The key fittings are magnetic, which is good, but the magnets aren't very strong. They kept falling off at random times, but it doesn't matter. 2) Overall the box it comes in is pretty good. Hard molded plastic. But the two clips that hold it closed seem to be able to fall off if bent too much. Hasn't happened to me yet, so I'm considering it - so take it for what it's worth. Not big enough to shoot stars.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Slightly torn
