Availability Here are my first impressions, I haven't had a chance to ride it yet and will update this review once I do. headache for us. For starters, here are my observations with this luggage rack regarding owning a Jeep Wrangler. I have a Jeep Wrangler Sport JL 4 Door Hard Top with a standard 2" hitch, standard lift/height and standard tires. This bike carrier is NOT compatible with the standard hitch. This requires an extension. The hole on the bike rack does not reach the hole on the hitch, it is about 3 inches short. If the holes don't line up you won't be able to secure it with the pin provided, so using it that way would be unwise and unsafe. Speaking of the pin, it doesn't go all the way through the other side but goes through the left hole of the hitch and bike rack tube and has a pressure ball to keep it from falling out. rattles during installation. You will need a hitch extender to properly install on your Wrangler. At least a 4 inch extension if you don't need to open the tailgate. If you just want to open the tailgate a bit to get in, you can use an 8 inch extension. However, the window cannot be opened with a hard top, the gate does not swing far enough. . The tire will hit the bike rack if the gate is open more than 4 to 5 inches. The tire is about 2-3 inches lower on the JL than on the JK. Maybe you can open the gate completely with JK. Here's what I do to fully open the gate. I use a hitch extender with a second 2" hitch accessory. This is an 8" extension with another 2" hitch receiver welded about 4" higher. They are sold here on Revain. Typically the extension piece is for towing and the second accessory hitch is for attaching a bike or rack over whatever you have. "What I did was turn it upside down so the secondary clutch was under the extension. Since it's a Wrangler, you have the lift/height to do it. So if I attach a bike rack to this bottom hitch I can fully open the gate. I tested it in my driveway with my stock tires and storage lift and even on the worst/biggest incline of my driveway I had about 3 inches of clearance between the bottom the trunk and the floor. These specific modifications to the Wrangler didn't take my guess into account since I knew what I was getting myself into. Now that the Jeep Wrangler specific stuff is out of the way of a real bike rack. This carrier is quite heavy. I'm a young man working and it's a bit heavy to carry around but I wanted a full 2" rack, not 1 1/4" by 2". There's no easy way to store it when it's not plugged in (like somewhere in your garage). use it to lower the rack sticks straight down so you can't put the rack on the floor without putting all the weight of the rack on that lever. What I did was turn off the rack's bike tilt/lower function use to hide this lever so there is something in my garage. But if you pull it, you can scratch the 2-inch main tube and farther post—there's still a little wobble, even with the anti-wobble knob tightened. And yes, I wiggled it when I tightened it. The glossy surface is extremely prone to scratches and also makes scratches very visible. I wish the rear tire belts were fabric instead of plastic, I'm sure they'll eventually break with repeated use. bend/use. The bike locks are quite short. I couldn't get it through the frame, it didn't reach the locking pin. Instead, I had to clamp it between the fork legs. It doesn't seem very secure, as a determined thief could lift the front carrier (since it doesn't lock), unlatch the rear seat belt, and cut the flimsy lock cable with wire cutters. I'll be looking into a 20mm steel lock cable that runs through my frame and spare tire for added security. The ratchet system/notches holding the front wheel are plastic, I hope it lasts a long time. - With 29 inch car. Assembled aluminum mountain bike, the bike feels pretty secure in the rack. There's a slight hesitation, but I've seen worse in my research on bike mounts. - The front wheel shells can be folded down to make the luggage rack more compact. These are my first observations. I'll update this review once I go for a walk, I'll also add photos of my setup. Eventually I'll decide if this rack is worth the $500 MSRP after I use it. So far she gets a 3.5/5 from me.
