This is a buck converter that reduces DC voltage. If you need a specific output voltage, the input voltage needs to be about 1.5-2 volts higher than the desired output voltage. It has a nice makeshift "body" worth having. It's great because you can limit voltage, current, or both. This has confused people in some of the other reviews but is actually an advantage. If the current limit is too low for your minimum, it won't spend what you need. To use it you need to put a minimum load on it and set the tension as you want. Then load it heavily and adjust the current as you like. You now have a constant voltage but current limited power supply. Warning: The device appears to be designed to power 5V USB at a higher voltage such as 12V. You must set it to 5V before connecting any USB device, or it will destroy your USB device. I had no interest in USB and stuck a glue stick on the USB connector to prevent someone from plugging in such a USB device if it was the wrong voltage.
