Review on Chef Master 90005 5 Gal Salad Spinner: Efficient Hand Powered Manual Spinning with Built-in Braking System - Commercial Salad Spinner Dryer by Douglas Coronado

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Wash a lot of greens, you need one of these / Hope it lasts

This is a first impression evaluation. I will update it with further use. If you have a restaurant that serves salads, you need one of these. To be honest I would like to buy a 2.5 gallon model as it is too big for my needs. The smaller model can use 2 to 3 heads at the same time. Darge model 5 to 6. A bit bulky when spinning. It was supposed to come with a suction cup, but it doesn't. You can find it elsewhere, but it doesn't cost $60. Revain has three 5 gallon plastic spinners, a Chef Master, a Dynamic and a few regular greens. The Dynamic costs about the same as the Chef-Master when shipping is included, and it's made in France, which is probably a good thing. The cook is made in China. I understand that green is also made in China. There aren't many reviews for the green model, which was cheaper ($102 with free shipping) but is now more expensive from current sellers. Both Chef-Master and Dynamic received quite positive reviews. I chose the Chef Master for two reasons: it has a brake, which seems like a good idea, and Prime Shipping as I broke our small salad bowl and needed replacing sooner rather than later. When I think about it, the brake isn't really needed. That's good, but the basket doesn't spin very long when you take your hand off the handle. I see my co-workers breaking the brakes on this thing, or not breaking the brakes. I hope they take advantage of it. The lid doesn't snap into place, it just sits on, which I found interesting. I don't think it's necessary. The transmissions don't sound very smooth, but I assume that's normal. The components make a quite reliable impression. The basket rotates six times per revolution and you must not rotate the handle faster than one revolution per second. A minute or two should be enough to dry the lettuce well. None of the components are dishwasher safe (unexpected as the bucket and basket fit in my professional dishwasher). There is a drain pipe and a small hose at the bottom. I'm not sure about the diameter of the hose, but I plan to go to a hardware store and buy a longer hose so it can drain into a bucket on the floor. I hope it stays with me for a long time. Update 21-Jan-16: It's been solid, although we don't use it that much anymore. I had to buy a 2 1/2 gallon model. My wife hates the 5 gallon model because it's too bulky for her.
