Review on Tenergy AA Rechargeable NIMH Battery Pack - 2000mAh Pre-charged, Low Self Discharge, High Performance (16 PCS) by Donald Marin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Decent batteries - great value for money!

Luckily I have a La Crosse Technology Alpha Power Battery Charger, BC1000 so I can see the value of these batteries. After a few discharge/charge cycles, I got readings between 2100 and 2300 mAh, well above the 2000 mAh listed for these batteries. (Please note that with new rechargeable batteries you may need several discharge/charge cycles before you get a stable mAh reading). So in conclusion (at least for the batch I received): AA averages 2200mAh, which is well over 2000mAh. prescribed for these batteries. This mAh value is similar to the older and cheaper Tenergy high capacity NiMH battery: 8 AA 2600 mAh + 8 AAA 1000 mAh; which are listed as 2600mAh but average around 2000mAh. However, this is where the similarity ends. The new Tenergy Centuras can still hold 80% of their full charge (2200mAh) after a month (which at 2000mAh adjusted means they hold 90% of 2000mAh). This is a noticeable difference compared to the old Tenergy "Blues" which dropped to 80% charge within a week of being on the shelf. Since I usually swap out my batteries after about a month, I can't test the Centura's durability over a longer period of time, but considering they're at an adjusted 90% of their full mAh after about a month, that would be a stretch. Accept the manufacturer's statement that they "retain 85% residual capacity after 1 year of storage". Overall, I think the Tenergy Centura is a decent battery, especially considering the price. I would actually rate the battery 4.5 stars.

Use it with all high-power electronic devices such as digital cameras, TV remote controls, children's toys, flashlights, alarm clocks, toothbrushes, shavers, game controllers, computer mice and keyboards, CD players, portable audio devices, two-way radios, PDAs, and other high-power portable digital electronics power consumption.
Cons
  • Expensive
