Battery cover and arrow problem

As some reviewers have pointed out, the battery cover is a problem, mainly because the instructions don't provide enough information. The two small arrows are roughly opposite the two small dots on the main body. To remove the cap, turn it clockwise about half an inch so that the BACKSIDE of the two arrows are now roughly opposite the two small dots. Now turn the tool right side up. The back cover should fall off. If not, try turning the lid a little more. The total turning movement will not exceed half an inch. To make it easier to rotate, I used a toothpick to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the inside of the four plastic retaining tips before attaching and relatching the lid. Be sure to turn the cap counterclockwise. AS POSSIBLE while locking the cover. First I used BBT with no clear view of the horizon, resulting in the needle pointing about forty degrees left and north at both marked locations. However, the distance was only a few meters (ie GOOD) so I tried two ways to fix the arrow, one or both of which worked perfectly. At first I took out the batteries for several hours, I thought to erase my sin, but unfortunately not like that (?). Then, even though I don't have a perfect skyline in my area, I spent about an hour running from one "good" area to another with BBT on in those places with positive results. The north arrow is now within two to three degrees of true north, and the position markers are accurate to within ten meters without dancing around. So I feel that "acquiring" most of the satellites in my circumstances wasn't a single act. , but actually it is a continuous process. I now give BBT (Bushnell BackTracker) five stars. However, the instructions could have been more helpful in this situation, which is why I only give it three stars.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
