Seam guide is smooth on top and edges with two areas of adhesive material recessed underneath. (The stickiness will continue after washing according to the instructions). It holds securely to the sewing foot, but is easy to remove. I used it for an afternoon of sewing and it hasn't budged yet. The best.for that elusive 1/4 seam!
