Short life exhaust and emissions filter

I designed an air intake around this filter and am incredibly disappointed. Performance was good but after less than 3000 miles the filter falls apart. Cleaned and lubricated as instructed with the Specter kit. A replacement filter is $30, now I either have to rebuild the air intake or change an expensive filter every few months.
