I'm not sure if I have a faulty gauge but I've found readings to drift over a period of time after zeroing and it seems to depend on how quickly you do that drop pens. For example, if you take a reading and slowly raise the probe, it will remain accurate. But if you take a measurement and then just pick up the instrument, the next measurement will be significantly different. During use (transmission adjustment) I zeroed and re-measured 2-3 times for each step to ensure the measurement was accurate. If you're careful not to move it too quickly, the measurements are consistent and accurate, and go well with a fairly expensive digital caliper. Works for slow motion, but I'm not sure if it's worth buying a 5x sensor for speeding it up, not for how or how often I'll be using it. I am giving four stars because it is accurate with care and is good value for money. But if you plan on using it professionally, I'd probably spend more. You probably would have done that, but only said it.
