Strong suspicion that I don't need a generator, so I need something better than idiotic lights, which I observed while driving. I bought this SMAKN and another brand which was blue, twice the price and not as bright. This one runs at half the current, about 17mA versus 35mA for the less bright one. But I ended up needing the accuracy and other display characteristics of the other device, so the other device cost twice as much. This one also shows about 0.1 volts as shown in this picture. I have several other photos with a different voltage (e.g. all other gauges show 12.63-12.65 but this one is 12.5). But if you just need to monitor something for changes or it still needs to run at a lower or higher voltage, say 6 or 24, then another double price won't work as it's the car's rated voltage range, but this one will work over one much larger area and use less than half the energy. You can get clear plastic tinted green to improve contrast/display quality.
