Very quiet! Adds moisture to the air, unlike air conditioners that remove moisture. It cools the air well without unnecessary power. It's not designed for a noisy window air conditioner, but cools very well for a low-power device. I almost never use my window air conditioner again because that's all we need unless it gets really hot outside. I could, but one more in the middle of summer. This lasts all night on a water fill if the fan is left on medium. So glad I bought it! great quality TO UPDATE. I had to buy another device because the first one was defective. The water pump is dead. The device switches off automatically when the water level drops. I try to keep it full but I can't see it every moment of my life. The device needs to be built to protect itself - I'm not sure it does that very well. I'll report back if the second one doesn't work. At the same time, I really like the machine. Don't expect it to cool as well as an air conditioner. Swamp coolers, big or small, never do this, but they certainly make the atmosphere cooler, more comfortable, and not as dry. Downgraded to four stars due to pump failure. and if it was just a defective unit, not a design, and lasts a year or so, I'll give it 5 stars again.
