Worked very well for me where another device failed
My application for this is simple. I wanted to USB a Kurzweil PC3 to my computer across the room. It's only 25 feet long with the cable running at the edge of the room, so I first tried a cheaper 16-inch self-powered USB extender that costs less than $25 and a 10-foot USB -Cable. That didn't work for me. I then got this one, hooked up a 25ft Category 5 cable to it and it worked just fine. It was more money but I think in this case you really get what you pay for. I really needed the connection to work so I'm very happy with this device.
