A bonus for us when we bought our house in the mountains was that it had free water from a deep well. It is fed by a spring and naturally filtered through an underground rocky aquifer. The water is sparkling, clear and cold with a slightly metallic taste. The metallic taste of the water was barely perceptible straight from the tap, but not when preparing drinks. The metallic taste intensified in Iced Tea and Kulayde. Hot coffee had a bitter aftertaste, and soups and broths had a pronounced aftertaste. When we lived in the city, we only used tap water for cooking. We had the Brita On Tap Faucet Water Filter System, White, to alleviate problems with sometimes smelly water. Back then, we bought bottled water to drink and use for coffee, tea, etc. When we moved, buying bottled water seemed wasteful when we had a good source. I tried our on-tap system and found that it filters out dissolved minerals from the aquifer, eliminating the metallic taste. After using the On Tap Filter for a while, particles will build up and the flow will slow down. Sometimes it was annoying waiting for jugs, kettles etc to be filled. We bought a Brita 35530 Ultramax dispenser to be able to filter, prepare and wait for more water. The Ultramax dispenser holds just over a gallon. Since our family doesn't drink carbonated beverages, we drink three and sometimes four gallons of filtered water a day. The Ultramax dispenser works by gravity. You pour water into the upper reservoir and it slowly seeps through the filter into the lower dosing chamber. My tip: Don't let the dispenser dry out. Do not pour out water without pouring it. For example, if I get filtered water for a kettle, I first fill the kettle with unfiltered tap water. I pour this water into the dispenser tank from the top. It starts filtering when I fill the now empty pot with the filtered water already at the bottom of the dispenser. We also bought a more portable Brita Atlantis water filter jug, white. This saves round trips to the kitchen when we are outside. I mostly keep it on my bedside table. It holds about 2 liters, enough for even the hottest night in the mountains, and the lid keeps out those pesky flying bugs that manage to sneak in every summer. There is nothing more unpleasant than waking up with a dry mouth, taking a sip of water and discovering a winged swimmer. Pooh. I've already mentioned my biggest complaint: with any product, the water flow slows down the more the filter is used. Another problem is that the price of filters can vary greatly between sellers. I always find the best prices for everything on Revain. These replacement filters for Brita 42609 Jug 10 pcs in a dispenser pack great value and I signed up for Subscribe & Save to get 15% off Brita Water Filter Water Filter System Replacement Filters White 2 pcs By using Brita products give us delicious, pure water for a fraction of what we used to spend on bottled water. I recommend everything I've tried.
