Review on Coolmax I-400 240-Pin 400 Power πŸ’¨ Supply featuring Low Noise Cooling Fan (80mm) by Kevin Stephan

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Much lighter and quieter than the Antec SL350 it replaced but note the 4 pin connector on older models MB

it weighs several times less than the original Antec SL350 it replaced. Just a note for those like me who may have trouble connecting all the cables to their old motherboard. This is not a criticism of the product, just information for people like me trying to salvage 20 year old computers. The Antec SL350 that popped, I mean popped, had the old standard 20 pin connector and also a separate 4 pin power connector for the motherboard. The Coolmax has a standard 20 pin connector plus a 4 pin connector if you have a newer 24 pin connector. I assumed that the 4 pin connector that was plugged into the 20 pin connector was the correct connector for the 4 pin connector on the motherboard, but when I plugged everything in and turned on the computer nothing happened . I thought when Antec showed up I could fry the motherboard, but I was wrong. What I didn't notice is that the original Antec 4 pin connector had 2 black and 2 yellow wires. The 4 pin that connects to the 20 pin on the Coolmax has 2 red, 1 black and 1 yellow. They have the wrong voltage for the older 4 pin. What I also didn't notice was that the Coolmax came with two additional 4-pin connectors, mostly glued together, that looked like one 8-pin connector, so I didn't notice at first. correct 2 black and 2 yellow wires. Realizing that, the computer booted up. It's only been a few days, but so far so good. I will update the review when Coolmax comes out in the near future.
