Super power supply for a small price!

I had an old computer that was given to me because it didn't work. Pressed the power button, nothing happens. If the fan did not turn on, it does not necessarily mean that the PSU (power supply) is bad, but since the computer did not turn on, I realized that it was most likely a bad PSU. This power supply was cheap enough that if it wasn't a bad power supply in a computer I wouldn't have that much money (and could use it elsewhere later). After installing the PSU, I unplugged the old PSU…

The information does not match. on computers and accessories

I've been looking for information about SATA connectors on this thing but I haven't found anything, not only here but nowhere else. They don't fit on my hard drive or DVD drive and I don't know why! They look pretty much the same as the ones on the device I'm trying to replace, except they're 17mm deep instead of 20mm and the little metal strips, whatever they're called, are silver instead of brass.

Internal AC wiring is minimal

I bought this to build a hobbyist desktop power supply (RaspberryPi, Arduino etc) not suitable for PC use but I think my insights can help people. To build my block I had to disassemble this block. In doing so, I found that all of the internal AC wiring (power connector to the voltage selector switch, to the on/off switch, to the main power supply board) had been stripped. The insulation was stripped so far that many strands were torn off. This caused the wire to break off the solder joint with

DOA Computers & Accessories

I bought 2 of these Coolmax 400W power supplies. I hooked one up to an Optiplex 9020 and figured I could put a decent graphics card in this Dell. The problem is that I raised the power button, I got power for about 2-3 seconds, then the fans stopped and won't boot. Press the power button several times, but there is no power. I turned the power off, then back on and got power and the computer booted up. Turn off the computer and try restarting the power button a few times before I got power…

Cheap, lots of connections, pretty noisy

This was a very cheap and handy replacement for a 12 year old Linux server PSU (replacement itself) that after 5 faithful years broke 24/7/365 Dienst explosively killed himself . Plugging in the new power supply was quick and easy and the server was up and running and humming (loudly) 15 minutes after I snatched it from the hands of the Revain courier. I have to say that this is one of the NOISY fans. I don't really care since the server is in a closet, but I'd be furious if I had to yell at my

Poor Design, Potentially Dangerous

As you can see in the photo, one of the wires going to the external power switch was completely bare of solder. If not properly grounded, a loose 110V wire like this can cause an electric shock. There are also random solder drops, cold solder joints, and barely filled solder joints. Having dealt with cheap power supplies in the past, I took no chances and opened this device as soon as it arrived. After the repair the unit seems to be working fine and I won't be using anywhere near 400 watts so…

it weighs several times less than the original Antec SL350 it replaced. Just a note for those like me who may have trouble connecting all the cables to their old motherboard. This is not a criticism of the product, just information for people like me trying to salvage 20 year old computers. The Antec SL350 that popped, I mean popped, had the old standard 20 pin connector and also a separate 4 pin power connector for the motherboard. The Coolmax has a standard 20 pin connector plus a 4 pin…

Do you really need a PC power supply test? If so,

PC power supply. Either it works or it doesn't work. If it doesn't fit or doesn't have the ports you need to connect certain devices to your PC, you simply ordered the wrong item and weren't paying attention. This is a simple ATX form factor power supply. Bought for my wife who had a faulty power supply. It simply used a 2GB graphics card with minimal power consumption and no need for an external power connector, and the original PSU was only 275 watts, so that was more than enough to replace…

You get what you pay for

The fan on my old HP P7-1110 started making a very loud noise, so I had to replace the PSU. I chose to do this instead of just replacing the fan due to the ease of repair. I've searched a lot on the internet and had a lot of trouble finding something that I thought would fit the old device. The Coolmax description said it was versatile so at $20 I decided to give it a try. There were both very positive and very negative reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. As for Revain, they somehow…
