The hinges are made of curling iron, plastic, light weight and the rivets are big and very strong.
I used some silicone to ensure there were no leaks during installation. Lightweight, durable and now I'm just waiting for the bungee cord to arrive. I used this to attach 6 loops to the front of my kayak so I can easily take my small day pack with me when I travel. Very happy, I would recommend these as the first easiest and most inexpensive project you can do if your kayak doesn't already have them. Every kayak I own will get them.
