Relatively recent tests have found that new strands do not match old strands. To my knowledge, this is because Red Heart needs the resources and staff to manufacture the products (likely culprit: Ms. Rona). Well, here it is. The color difference isn't huge, but it's *noticeable*. If you are working on a large monochrome project, you may need new yarns to go with it. If you're doing small projects or using stripes or colored blocks, this might be fine. For me, I've found the (current) new burgundy to be a lot lighter than my skein from a few years ago, without losing body. Colour. It has a slightly shiny look. I crochet the shawl and I actually like how it looks with the half layer. While my old yarn sometimes had "bumps" in the yarn where the fibers felt denser than the rest of the yarn, the current yarn hasn't had any such spots yet and feels softer overall! It's just as easy to work with, and the tag reminder on how to pull the inner thread is welcome as always. [Image ID: Red knitted scarf, folded. The scarf on the quilt has a floral pattern and there are loose ties in the picture.]
