The white wire needs to be earthed but these lights need the white wire connected to 12 volts or they won't work. Of course, the light bulbs have to be switched into sockets, but they are sealed. I'm afraid I'll short out my truck's wiring if I apply 12 volts to my trailer frame. Better send her back.
