Poor design but I managed
I knew this RV step was cheaper than some of the other best on the market. More expensive models have individually adjustable legs. I didn't need them as I wanted to use them very flat. I was very disappointed to find that the non-slip surface was installed on the part of the step that does NOT make contact with your foot, so basically useless. The silver parts of the steps between the non-slip strips are HIGHER than the non-slip surface. I was able to add more non-slip strips that I bought from a local hardware store to fix the clearly bad design.
