Be safe, don't regret power tool parts and accessories

From time to time I use deadly weapons called power tools. As a result, every time I use them, I have to "relearn" how to use them. I've been particularly concerned about my table saw since I learned that a successful orthopedic surgeon and skilled carpenter cut off the tips of his index and middle fingers with a table saw, effectively ending his career. So when I came across these GRR Ripper Boost Blocks at Revain, and after reading positive reviews about their design and construction, I thought buying them would be a no-brainer. I agree they are overpriced; but again, they're about 1/10 the cost of an emergency room visit. These blocks are well built - take me back to the days when ALL tools were well built and not cheap steel or flimsy plastic! I believe there are viable alternatives to this product - pushers or long wooden sticks - I've read posts from proponents of these methods. Most of these alternatives seem to come from experienced carpenters who have their own "favourite" method and are pretty good at what they do. But I believe security should never be compromised by procedures or using tools that aren't the safest out there, especially for inexperienced users. Accidents involving power tools are like motorcycle breakdowns: the question is not "if” but "when”. I think these pressure blocks add an important safety factor to this dangerous hobby.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Faulty
