Review on πŸ” JIFETOR Engine Compression Tester Gauge Kit: Complete Set for Testing Small Gas Engines in Automotive, Motorcycle, Outboard Motor, and Snowmobile by Mike Wheeler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Constant readings, adapter to fit most vehicles, no leaks

Happy with this inexpensive but good quality compression test kit. Large diameter 63 caliber, rubber coating and quick-release couplings like the more expensive models. There is only one flexible hose, but that's all I need to test compression on my Subaru. My engine has horizontal pistons, which means the spark plugs are on the side and deeply sunk. The flexible hose got to the threads with no problems and I didn't need an adapter as the end is 14x1.25. The compression on my old 200,000 mile engine was 145-150psi per cylinder, varying only a few psi from what I expected. The owner's manual says that deviations of less than 20psi are usually a good sign and the actual value doesn't matter much, although you want it to be within the specified compression range for your engine. I'm certainly not a professional mechanic. and you don't have to use a compression tester all the time. This is a good tool for home use that has helped me quickly rule out compression issues in my engine while troubleshooting. I was concerned that the gauge would not be accurate, but I am happy with my test results and the gauge was able to hold the pressure until I pressed the release valve. A pretty good instruction manual comes with it and anyone can compress. Check if they follow the instructions. I had to unplug the camshaft position sensor but that was all I did other than warm up the engine first and had no problems after plugging the coil packs back in and running it. Good product, no complaints but I probably wouldn't use it in a shop that does daily compression testing. Several other bits are included to work with most thread sizes and there are 2 quick release rubber adapters for you to hold. Location when starting the engine. I didn't test them because I couldn't fit them (the engine is too close to the frame) but with inline 4 and 6 cylinder engines it would be easy to do a quick check. I prefer a threaded connector, but if the size you want isn't included, push-in connectors should work just fine for a variety of smaller motors or motors with custom connector sizes. There's also a metal extension for very deep cylinders, another thing that doesn't work with my engine configuration, but I love that there are multiple options for different engine types.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Working speed
