Review on πŸ”Œ High-performance Diesel Normally Closed Electric Solenoid Valve by Chris Long

Excellent Economy Solenoid Valve

I bought this solenoid valve and have been using it for a little over 3 weeks in a water system with a thermostatic controller. The quality of the valve is excellent and the function is reliable. Mine operates once 'on' and once 'off' for a total of 6-9 hours 'on' 7 days a week during the summer (May to September). The solenoid valve is easy to disassemble, and each of the three main components appears to be easily interchangeable. I didn't have any instructions but it seemed pretty easy as there are only two electrical wires. Some have complained about non-standard pipe threads, but it's definitely NPT. I've had no problem connecting gunmetal, zinc, black iron, or PVC with a 3/4" female thread. It's very important to remember that the valve is uni-directional, not bi-directional, and has a small flow direction arrow stamped on it has .brass body.if you install it upside down the valve will be normally open instead of normally closed giving the impression that it is a 'normally open' valve.I don't think it's designed that way it runs long term but I know mine reacted that way before I saw the little flow arrow stamped on the side of the brass body. The valve gets hot when actuated but not very hot.It got reports that the valve is not designed to be left on for more than 8 hours at a time and the solenoid valve can burn out if used regularly over a long period of time d (this is because the solenoid must remain energized to keep the valve open). Overall I recommend this product UPDATE: So after 6 weeks of daily use the solenoid valve is still working well. Cold spring water flows through the valve. The solenoid is hot but not scalded in "open" mode, and you can still pick it up and hold it for a while without burning your hand. With hot water flowing through I don't think I could expect long life before the magnet burns out due to the specific type and application I use.

Pros
  • PLEASE NOTE: This valve is NOT a permanent valve and should NOT be used for more than 8 hours in a cycle; this shortens the life of the valve and can lead to burnout of the valve core. If your project requires a continuous flow valve, see our US SOLID Motorized Ball Valves.
Cons
  • Out of style
