So Far So Good - Marine Electronics

I really want to give this stereo 5 stars but I have just installed it and will give it some time before re-reading this review with its performance. I'm reconsidering it mainly for the facility. Connection instructions are complete nonsense. Not only is there a limited description of the wires, but you have to guess which is which. It wouldn't cost them anything to devote another half page to wiring and have a competent circuit. Between that and the wire set, I spent most of the day trying to figure out which wires went where for my car. Of course I soldered them all and wrapped them in shrink wrap. As for the stereo itself, I really like it. I spent a few weeks looking for Revain, Walmart and a few other places before settling on this stereo. Although I could buy Pioneer or Alpine for about the same price. I hope the extra power is there and noticeable. I love that it has RCA preamps coming out the back. It would be pretty darn easy to add an amp. USB and Aux are easily accessible. The SD card slot (not micro) is located behind the front panel. Love it. Doesn't let dust through. Design and color are nice too. The sound is excellent even with the stock Dodge speakers. Installing new speakers next weekend. There will be an update on how it sounds with speakers that can handle the power they're supposed to put out. UPDATE: Had to send back the first block. You could smell the electronics heating up and more or less burning. It seemed to work fine, but with a replacement I can tell a difference in volume. I liked the device so much that I exchanged it. Not to mention I soldered the wires. The second block is excellent and works perfectly. The speakers I matched it with are Boss P694C 6x9" 800W speakers (1 pair) and Boss P554C 5.25" 300W speakers (1 pair) which I also purchased from Revain. Paid about $62 for them. Of course, the power ratings for these units are way too expensive and I can't tell you for sure if they can actually handle that much power with this deck, but overall for the $120 I spent on the stereo and speakers, I'm... satisfied. I can turn the stereo volume up to 36-38 (40 max) before I get distortion. Last update: This stereo goes really well with the above speakers. Turn it up to 40 and turn up the volume/bass and these speakers are perfectly clear. So they are cheaper than I expected. But it is quite obvious that this stereo does not perform as advertised. But no one buys an amplified stereo thinking it's going to blow windows, so I'm happy with that performance. To get a little more out of the stereo, I bought a small cheap amp and hooked it up through the stereo's RCA jack to a pair of 10-inch subwoofers in tiny sealed boxes under the seat in the back of my truck. I liked that I could connect my regular speakers to my stereo and then connect the RCA to the amp at the same time. Here, too, the stereo system can be rotated by up to 40° and still retain a crystal-clear sound. Also through the amp and 10ki. Cabin sound at perfect volume. You won't make the car next to you look around, that's for sure, but if you're looking for quality sound yourself then this is a great piece of the puzzle. I notice that one of the LEDs on the front of the radio does not light up when switched on, but lights up fully after switching it on. A bit strange, but still.
