Review on Samsung DVD V2500 VCR DVD Combo by Douglas Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great DVD/VCR at an affordable price

This is the first DVD-VCR combo I've ever owned I have and like to use. I like the ability to play CDs and MP3s. There is no fast forward or shuffle function for MP3 tracks. Its performance is quite satisfactory when watching DVDs and VHS tapes. Tape rewind is very fast, if a bit noisy. The unlit remote is crammed with useful controls and is pretty well thought out. The device has a high quality appearance. The picture and sound quality of DVD and VHS is excellent. The back of the device is well designed and has all the connectivity options that are used today. There is a composite video input and a stereo input on the front panel. It would be nice if they included a headphone jack. Setting the time and date is relatively easy. While the device is well designed, functional and attractive, I'm not sure about the electronics. Once the unit got very hot while playing an MP3 disc. As a result, the disc eject function did not work even after repeatedly pressing the open button on both the remote control and the device itself. I turned off the device and after it cooled down, ejecting the drive worked fine. This problem hasn't recurred, but I'm starting to wonder about the reliability. The nature of the combo device means complexity and I was initially a bit confused as to how to get it to do what I wanted, so there is a bit of a learning curve. curve involved. Samsung has done a great job of making the controls logical, but they're not necessarily intuitive. Overall I think this machine is excellent value for money.
