Review on Enhanced Performance Hub Assembly: Timken 518507 Axle Bearing by Tyrone Lyons

INSTALLATION WAS MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT SHOULD BE.

Just received 2 of these bearings/hubs with internal and external grease seals and new dirt flanges. I personally installed these Timkins in both spindles that will be installed in my Corolla 98 on 3/16/2016. Here is my take on installing a bearing in a spindle. Installation is a bit more complicated than it should have been. This is because the inner ring of the bearing is in two halves rather than one block (as far as I remember there were bearings back in the good old days). This means that once you've removed the plastic clip that holds the inner races together for shipping, you can no longer leave the inner race unsupported or half of it will fall to the ground and contaminate your new bearing. These are 2 pcs. The inner clip makes it difficult to install the knot on the press. If at any point you forget to support the inner race, the halves will fall apart exposing a lubricated race and lubricated ball bearings that can easily fall off or interfere with proper assembly, which you then need to properly disassemble and reassemble. . As a result, the bearing can easily become contaminated with dirt. I'm not sure why Timkin feels the need to complicate this. This is not a good engineering design and I know some other bearing manufacturers have split inboard bearings as well. The bearings themselves look good, but that's saying nothing.
