Review on πŸ”¨ Deltana SAHW325U5: Robust Wall Mount Bumper & Holder with 3-5/8-Inch Projection by Kelly Dorsey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

durable construction; concrete installation; Open review.

***Updated 6/2013 @ below - hook broken*** I bought one of these from Revain partner Handlesets.com (Build.com website). It came in a separately sealed bag with the necessary hardware, no instructions.Solid brass hardware.I spoke to the manufacturer on the phone specifically about outdoor installation.Deltana recommended going for a nickel finish as the brass patina will blend with the Time wears away resulting in silver tarnishing I don't claim to fully understand this (I always assumed solid brass would be "brass colored" through and through), but whatever, I have an antique brass finish ( U5) ordered and will update this review in another year to see how it holds up. My outdoor application requires anchoring to concrete. The inserts provided have square edges for installing to wall panels. So found ic h Nylon concrete inserts that I was able to use with Deltana's brass pan-head screws (Hi llman Wallplug Anchor, Item #370712, #7-9 x 1-inch, 50 lb. trigger force, available from my local orchard supply). The installation in concrete is done with appropriate bits and drills. Drilling the three anchor points requires precise alignment and drilling, so I recommend making a plywood template with the correct hole spacing as there will be no rework in the concrete. Make sure your holes are deep enough not only for the 1" nylon inserts, but also for the slightly longer machine screws (if they come out the heads will snap off immediately). You'll need 15/64 for the Hillman insert (or whatever). the packaging recommends your insert of choice). I decided to apply some construction glue under the base of these stops before attaching them to the concrete, just to keep water out of the small gap and for a little extra tension.- with no resistance. The angle at which the door meets the bumper is not adjustable (the face of the bumper will be mostly parallel to the wall). Instead of the door constantly hitting the corner of the bumper, I chose to use the tab to be fitted in line with the bumper so the rounded tab touches the rubber the downside to this is the eyelet is a little less than ideal which prevents the hook from fully e snaps. To fix this you need to bend the hook slightly. Be careful with the eyelet attachment. A little trial and error will help to double check and double check correct placement before drilling any holes. Overall this doorstop appears to be a good deal, is solidly built and comes complete with everything except concrete anchors and instructions. (The instructions may at least provide guidance on how to adjust the eyelet height.)*** Updated 6/2013 ***After just a few months of use, the hook inexplicably broke in a bend. There is no good reason for this - the door in question is light and not subject to any extraordinary loads. I sent Deltana a photo indicating discoloration at the crease (see photos I posted) suggesting that powering up resulted in a vulnerability. Deltana disagreed. They also don't stock replacement hooks and advised me that if I wanted to make a warranty claim I would have to do it through the supplier (Build.com is where I bought it). This is impractical for me as I have it attached to a concrete wall so I'll probably just kick the bill and buy a "donor block" to replace the hook (I've searched locally and couldn't find a suitable replacement) . I'm disappointed that I chose a product from a reputable company (I had a few questions before purchasing and their answers were quick and to the point), but they don't have replacement parts. Well, hopefully it's just a coincidence and the two similar but not identical Deltana hooked doorstops I bought work great. No change in my rating, just a frown on my face.
