If you can't afford or don't need an 85mm f/1.4 lens, this is an excellent glass, typical high quality Nikkor, good at f1, 8 with some purple fringes and CA in some lighting conditions. It focuses quickly and accurately on the D90 (doesn't work on the D60, D50 and D40, only focuses on the body screw) and never misses even in low light. Resolution is good, allowing you to bump the ISO up a notch or two to compensate for a low-light situation where it's easy to hit the spot when focusing. Great for head and shoulders portraits, the DX gives you a 127.5mm field of view on the FX/35mm camera. A little more space in the portrait world can allow you to stand a little further away from your subject/subject. price (almost 3 times). The new 85mm 1.4g should be even better.
