Review on Cisco Linksys WET11 Wireless Ethernet Bridge by Ryan Rodriguez

I have broadband internet in my upstairs bedroom. I wanted the kids to have access to the internet too. Your computers are below. Since I rent this house I didn't feel like digging through the walls to rewire. I have a Linksys WAP11 (access point) for the top floor and a WET11 for the bottom floor and now I can connect multiple computers (through a hub) to the WET11 and they can all access the internet. This saved me some money because I didn't have to buy a wireless PCI card for every downstairs computer. Setup was pretty easy. Linksys allows you to set up WEP encryption using a passphrase instead of the usual long string of hexadecimal characters. This is handy if both your client and access point are Linksys (which is the case in my case). I'm sure Linksys likes that I have an incentive to buy more Linksys devices to make setup easier. You can set up the device using a web browser. One annoying thing is that you don't get internet access if something goes wrong, so you can't log into WET11 with your web browser to fix the configuration. You should return to the Linksys CD containing the installer. I heard WET11 can also be used with TiVo. I'd like to try that, but right now we have a layout where the TiVo and computers are far apart at the bottom, so I don't have that setup. I find the Linksys customization app quite annoying. Rather than using the standard Windows widgets, it has its own "beautiful" window with its own custom title bar, custom radio buttons, etc. They didn't implement all the keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys, cut/paste, etc.) so it's really a pain to use their program. To make it look like k00l they sacrificed consistency and usability. :-(
