Not 100% Bamboo: Cutlery & Knife Accessories

Despite what the manufacturer claims in its listing, this knife block is not made of bamboo. The actual block is made from a kind of glued softwood and then covered with bamboo veneer. All the parts you normally see are covered in bamboo and the block looks fine, but a bit of truth in the ad is welcome. The angle between the bottom of the unit and the table top creates a clearance problem for the top row of knives when placing the unit under a closet. This wasn't a problem with my previous block as it was cut at a sharper angle. It looks like the manufacturer increased the angle of this block to accommodate the bottom row of steak knives. This is not an obstacle, but a nuisance when placing the device under an overhanging cabinet. The position of the kitchen scissors slot in the middle of the top row and the steel knife slot to the right interfere with each other. Again, not a hindrance to the show, but a nuisance. The upper limit to the length of a knife that a block can hold is around 10 inches. My 12 inch cutting knife hangs at the bottom of the longest slot. On the plus side, the block looks nice and can hold a lot of knives. I easily managed to attach two sets of knives in it.
