Looks like a simple negative cutter. And again, this product gets the job done. The white plastic areas allow light through the product to see the edges of the image on the negative film. So far I've just held the product up to the light to center the edge of the negative on the crop edge, then placed it on the table and pulled the trim lever. Can it be that the negative film is scratched by the plastic? However, I think this is a moot point as there is a risk in every task and if you have to cut a negative strip you have to cut it. So far the cutter delivers a nice clean cut edge which makes inserting into plastic cases much easier than cutting with scissors or not at all. (For example, old negatives with poorly trimmed edges tend to dig into the plastic sleeves, preventing easy insertion.) Long negatives usually need to be trimmed, even when using a flatbed scanner.
