I ordered this for my 1994 Ford Bronco 5.8L. Here's the story: I've been researching this product for quite some time now, about a year and a half to be exact. I've heard a lot of bad reviews about this product specifically for this generation Bronco/F-150 stating it's not worth it, either because of insufficient fine particle filtration or the 'fact' that it draws in warmer air than the factory. Crate. not attached for reasons. According to critics, this product will NOT increase horsepower, torque or fuel economy due to these factors. Contrary to the opinion of the critics, I still opted for the cold air intake. What I have to say is that upon installation I IMMEDIATELY noticed increased throttle response versus the stock setting. The truck is much more sensitive, especially off the track, and seems to be shifting better than ever. I had no control or other problems. It was a simple app that you could just turn on and run. It's too early to tell if this product will improve my fuel economy or not. I have to learn to ease off the gas a bit as it's very hard not to be swayed by the roaring sound of my combined exhaust and intake sounds. I will definitely report back on what I gained/lost from this setup in the future. A NOTICE. Actually, I got the wrong model. I ordered THIS Kit 57-2542 and received a newer/revised Gen II Kit 57-2543. The "42" kit is said to add more than 13 hp, followed by the "43" kit, probably for more than 9 hp. If you fancy an extra 4hp, make sure you get the 2542 kit when your order arrives, not the second gen. I found out about it AFTER I had already taken the time to install it on my truck. I bit the bullet and decided to keep it anyway. Revain gave me a small refund for the mistake and I can say I'm still as satisfied as ever. This is actually very confusing to me because I visited the K&N site and they list the 1st gen model number with 2nd gen directions and 2nd gen performance upgrades. This leads me to believe that they no longer make this 1st generation model. Installation: I would like to say that the installation was easy, but it is not. This was partly due to my airbox duct area getting rusted and having to drill a lazy bolt etc. Obviously you may not have this problem. Also, I found it easier to install this kit slightly out of order. In one case they want you to attach the supplied silicone hoses to the throttle body and then attach the plastic hoses to the hoses. I found this impossible as the fit is very tight. It is better to install the hoses on the pipe first, and THEN on the engine throttle. In addition, it will help you install the heat shield part included in the kit, remove it after marking the location of the holes, and then drill and then reinstall. I didn't have to uninstall it after installing it. Why bother with an extra step if you don't have to? Finally, there are indications for vehicles equipped with and without air conditioning. This was a bit of an issue for me as my car used to have an AC compressor at one point because it came with a factory AC compressor, but it no longer works as the compressor got stuck and I just didn't replace it with one. Originally an idler pulley or "dummy" pulley. I couldn't find any of the three included mounts that fit my setup. BUT NOT. The thing is firmly connected to the throttle body. I believe this is an included K&N insurance policy in case the user doesn't tighten it enough with the clamps provided and it gets caught in pulleys, fans etc. Just make sure it's snug and tight if you encounter a similar problem. I had no problems with it at all. Overall: Advantages/reasons to buy: Increased throttle response. Looks fantastic, gives the engine bay a much cleaner and more aggressive look. Gas. USES the factory fresh air intake through the front grille. I wasn't sure if that's true or not, maybe it's exclusive to the newer Gen 2 and why they changed it. I was concerned that I would run out of a cool/fresh air source, but that's not a problem. This is why the instructions tell you to install, remove, drill and reinstall the screen as the factory air intake is bolted to the screen to hold it in place. GREAT! My biggest PRO is that I now have a lot more room to work under the hood. I no longer have to disconnect the rubber breather hose to reach down and change the oil filters. This system reroutes the tubing using the included silicone tubing that needs to be cut to fit. Anything that makes working under the hood of a nearly 20 year old truck easier is a marvel from above lol. also easier access to and around the fan shroud etc. Cons: None at all. - Do what makes you happy, if you think about it, you won't be disappointed. I only wish I had done that a year ago. My 20 year old engine now feels like it has just survived half its life. It's not all in my head either. If you want throttle response/increased power and "improvement" torque in mind, buy an octane booster or switch to premium petrol. Hope that helps!
