I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. One day while driving the cable to the spare tire carrier broke and my spare tire flew out from under the truck at 100 km/h! As I mounted my tire and checked the cable, I wondered how many people have ever checked their spare tire and holder? I mean if you think about it the cables have lasted this tire for 16 years and to be honest I never considered lowering it for testing. So I ordered this and a friend installed it for me and it works great. My spare tire was dry rotted with multiple cracks along the sidewall. When I say dry rot I don't mean falling apart, it was still inflated and looked ready to go at first glance but tires wear out over time and sidewall cracks were an indicator. It was the original spare part that came with the truck. Using this tire at highway speeds would be a disaster. So a broken wire is good, it made me think and looked at the spare wheel. I replaced it with a new one which is now back under the truck thanks to this bracket. If you've read this far, do me a favor and look at the spare tire and carrier.
