I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to car lights - I've read a lot of people buying these things and saying "Damn, they're bright." Yes, they're bright! But there is no beam control, bright light everywhere. So you get it! They are definitely not suitable for driving. But if you only need to light up one area, yes they will. At home I placed them next to Hella 500FF incandescent bulbs and seriously they were much, much brighter. Hellas have a lot longer range and obviously a tight beam pattern, but up to 60 or 80 feet or so they are blindingly bright. This doesn't make them suitable for driving, but they're great for unobtrusive lighting. I mounted a pair in the back of my 32ft RV because it's a little awkward to reverse this thing in the dark and they've been there for a while. Well, the opportunity arose when I needed to get out of a tight spot on an unlit road in the middle of nowhere, and I turned this thing on. It's light outside the window - maybe midday. They are ideal for these types of "under 5 mph" scenarios. It's hard to say how long they'll be active, but since they're only active for a few minutes at a time and only active a few times a year, probably forever. . :) But I like what they offer for the price and I will be buying a second set for the back of my Suburban to align the trailers at night. I am very happy with this purchase!
