Master Magnetics vs. OEM

I found another OEMTools OEMTools 24921 Magnetic Tool Holder at Revain for only $16. I decided to gather all the consumer reports and both the cheaper OEM and Master Magnetics AMC24PLC 24 inch wide, 20 lbs. Inch silver nickel finish with red stripe to order and compare (as I was thinking of getting more 4 or 5). Both had the main supply from Revain. Black and Yellow for $16. The chrome AMC24PLC is $24. .They are the same dimensions with 2 mounting tabs and a strip of tape covering the magnets. On closer inspection there are some differences. Looks a little thicker on chrome but that could be due to the chrome plating (mediocre chrome plating). Then a performance test: I used a luggage scale to see how much force is needed to pull out the small half-moon key. were very consistent. Black lets go at 8 pounds, chrome at 11 pounds. It pulled him right out of the bars. I also tried it from the side (because gravity wants to pull the tool away from the wall). Much less than you would expect but the same ratio. Conclusion: 3 kilos. The difference doesn't seem huge, but Chrome has about 30% more traction as a percentage. For my use, I chose chrome. I had other wimps that upset me greatly. But the price difference is significant. In this case, it seems like you get what you pay for. But for smaller tools, an OEM is probably fine.
