World of Differences

, I really want people to write what kind of car they have when they write partial reviews. I installed this steering damper on a 2003 gmc yukon xl 2500 and am very happy with it so far. I used to hate driving on the freeway on a windy day and going from yellow to white and there was nothing I could do about it. I started investigating why that might be, and that damper is one of the things that might need replacing. When I crawled under it to see if everything was bad I was a little shocked to find there weren't any. As far as I can tell, only diesels came from the factory. But I had a bracket on the frame and a hole in the tie rod so I bought it. That makes a big difference when driving. That's true, and I can take my hands off the wheel for a good quarter of a mile on the freeway before I start drifting to the curb. It took a few days to "break in". I'm not sure if this was a partial softening or if I was just getting used to the new steering feel, but at first I noticed some resistance when turning and coming back to center. But like I said, it only lasted a few days, and now everything seems to be pretty smooth. There are two reasons why I only gave it four stars. First, no bottom hardware is included. So if your truck is the same as mine and the hardware isn't already installed, get ready for a trip to the hardware store. I just used a 1/2" x 3" bolt with two washers, a lock washer and a nut. All 8th graders. You can definitely do without the 2 1/2" screw, as you can see in the picture it sticks out quite a bit. It just annoys me when companies don't ship new hardware with their parts. The second and possibly more serious problem is that for some reason the tapered bolt that fits into the tie rod doesn't go all the way in. I saw another review that had the same problem and I can't figure out if it should be it.or if something this is not true. I've even tried hitting this item from the bottom with a small sledgehammer to push it further, but there's a good 1/2" between the bottom of the rack and the base of the bolt. I hope that's all is ok as there isn't really much force on this screw but I'm afraid it will shear and may damage other steering components I'm hoping to get an answer from Monroe on this, abe I think we'll keep our fingers crossed until then. All in all a great product. It's not often that you find a $30 part in your car that changes day and night!
