Review on LG Blu Ray Compatibility Upconvert Ethernet by Shawn Parker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good basic DVD player with poor LG customer support and poor seller shipping protection

Overall the unit plays regular DVDs well and smoothly on my LG 1080p flat screen. I haven't tried 3D DVD and I don't have a 4k display, so I can't give an overview of these features. I routed the sound to my receiver via the optical output and the sound is very good. I also appreciate the subtitles button on the remote, which helps with dialogue in noisy scenes. The store is fast too. The main downside is the lack of printed instructions in the box. I called LG to request one. About a month ago they promised to ship one in 10 days, so obviously the cost of a 50 page printed manual is beyond their customer support capabilities. It's downloadable, but not everyone wants to print their own manual after spending $100 on a player. As a setup guide is really needed, their lack of customer service on this minor issue encourages me to avoid their products in the future. I doubt they will respond any better to a bigger problem. Two other minor problems were: very difficult to use with a very small remote control in a dark auditorium; and the device comes in a standard cardboard box without protective packaging. As a result, my device had a small dent on the back. He was playing normally so I didn't call the seller. The outer packaging would provide the protection I expect from a DVD player.
