Review on Seachem 67101330 Denitrate 500Ml by Hunter Wyn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Saved my fish, aquarium and time!

I bought a 5.5 gallon aquarium and a goldfish before doing some research to find out what type of aquarium a goldfish really needs. Well, for those of you who don't know, this tank size is too small for goldfish as they produce large amounts of ammonia which then converts to nitrite and eventually nitrate (not to mention the tank is just too small to continue his own). I monitored the water daily and was distraught when I finally saw the toxin levels rising. I used API AmmoChips as soon as I found out about it but the nitrite and nitrate levels were still rising. After doing a little research, I came across this item - Seachem Denitrate - and compared it to other items I could use to keep my fish from fatal poisoning. This product was the only one that I could put in a bag of filter media and pop right into my filter, which was important to me as I was short on money and didn't want to spend more on a filter that could handle these other products . I paired 2 tbsp. Seachem denitrate with 2 tbsp. AmmoChips (for some extra ammonia removal, although Seachem says it also removes ammonia - I wanted to make sure!), and after 4 days my nitrites and nitrates were down to manageable levels. A month later my nitrites are at 0.0ppm, my nitrates at 5.0ppm and my ammonia at 0.25ppm (although it's time for me to change the water). This product saved my fish from a slow, painful death and I am so glad I bought it!
