Review on Cleveland CBX 2 Wedge: Optimize Your Golfing Performance by Jonathan Yang

Good feel, distance, and forgiveness

PURCHASED: 52 degrees, 11 degrees rebound, steel bar I have a handicap in the low single digits, but I'm getting older and have been golfing for 40+ years. I play forged Mizuno irons with steel shafts - no blades, but no game improvement either. I don't like bladed fairway rods for full wedge shots or long distance serves - even forged ones. I like the feel of a heavier/more powerful wedge when fully fired. So my typical pitching wedge is the hollow back, which I like. My problem starts with the gap, sand and head wedges that no one else seems to make in a forgiving racquet. All I've seen over the years are types of blades I don't like. I saw that and the ad and thought I'd give it a try. This wedge is great. It's almost as soft as a forged blade on a full hit, and it's as forgiving as a cavity in the back should be - it's easier to hit the sweet spot than any bladed wedge I've ever used . My shots are consistently bigger in the middle of the stick. Those worried about the size of the head needn't worry: Visually, it's no bigger than the Callaway Mack Daddy at the address. The only difference is the thicker sole and back, which you can't see or feel. From what I've read the thicker outsole is hollow with some sort of vibration dampening material deployed in that area which gives it more forgiveness off the fairway, a softer feel at impact and better perimeter weighting. Whatever they say, for me it's true: it's right there, with the feel of a forged stick. Haven't tried it on clay yet and doubt I'll use it on grass as I like my Mizuno 921 58° hot metal for green side chips and sand bumps. And I doubt I would have liked it in higher lofts for my purposes, but it really should help the higher handicap folks struggling with sand and frontal wedges. This 52nd wedge will probably replace two of my wedges (50 degree and 54 degree). which will allow me to add a hybrid to my bag.
