best pipe lighter

When I read that the flame rips material out of the pipe bowl, I was convinced. Pipe tobacco is heavy, but if that were a problem I might as well keep the nozzle off the bowl. Some of the tastiest and longest pipe tobaccos are difficult to relight, and once partially burned to the ground they are even more difficult to relight. . From the photos it looked like this lighter could get very hot if needed, even at the bottom of the bowl. They were delivered quickly and were easy to fill with no butane leakage. Everyone smoked my pipe well, whether the cup was full or almost empty. The instructions say not to point the nozzle straight down, so I tilt the pipe about 45 degrees. It usually took two trigger pulls to fire until I figured out what I was doing wrong. The spark from this lighter does not last as long as incandescent flint particles. If I pull the trigger too quickly, the butane fumes won't have time to reach the spark source. If I remove the trigger and then gently pull, it lights up every time. This will not work if the flame is set too low. Apparently the regulator may not allow the valve to open at all. Fully counterclockwise wide open. Pure butane produces about 13 psi at room temperature and only about 6 psi at 45 F and about 3.5 psi at 35 F. I like to chill my lighter in the fridge before filling it so it has less pressure than you can. Brand new air filled lighter. It contains half as much butane and must not burn. If you turn the lighter upside down and press the fill valve with a wire or a tiny screwdriver, the butane pressure will force the air out of the lighter. If I do this when the lighter is at refrigerator temperature, the butane gas droplets will show me when there is no air. (The lighter must be above freezing, otherwise pressing the valve will let air in, not let it out.) The capacity of the tank is only about 0.3mL, or the volume of an 8mm section of a McDonald's straw. In the event of a leak, it will produce fewer flammable vapors but will be exhaled more often. It's good that they turned on the second one to be ready. I may never use a flashlight, but if I need to find a flashlight during a power outage, the lightbulb is brighter and safer than a small blue flame.

Pros
  • very impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
