Overheated almost immediately

We plugged it into a regular outlet and when the light came on the room instantly dimmed and came back on. We live in a new house so I know it's not the wiring and we've never had a problem with that outlet. Then, after about half an hour of use, the cable got very hot and the rotation stopped. It's junk and also a safety hazard. I returned it and will not buy this brand again.
