Defective wick solutions

The AirCare MAF1 Super Wick evaporative humidifier wick is enough to provide enough humidity in the room/house with my AirCare MA1201 humidifier. I live in very dry Nevada and this device was a great solution to get around the very dry air. Let's just say there were problems. Even with drinking water from the Truckee River, which our city supplies from snowmelt, salts accumulate at the end of the wick within two days, reducing its effective surface area and making it insufficient to maintain 50% humidity indoors (my Target). speed that allows me to sleep comfortably at night). To fix this I have two wicks and change them daily. The used one is soaked in the sink overnight to wash off the salt. So I can reuse them for many weeks. However, over time the wick will weaken and require maintenance or possibly replacement. You must be careful with these wicks. Their compression and crushing leads to their faster degradation. The wick tends to collapse as shown in others' drawings. To support the wick I made a crude support system out of strong, stiff metal wire (see photo). I use a small piece of wire as a clamp to hold the top ends together so they don't fall apart. I put the clip through the wick and make two small holes, one on each side. Every time I change the wick I try to put the wick in the same spot but be careful the wick can easily break. I use another long wire wrapped in a ring just wide enough to push the wick out from the inside so it doesn't break. This does the job of adequately supporting the wick. I think I could build more of these rings to add extra support. The point is that these wicks must be built to rest on top of them, otherwise doing so will reduce their effectiveness by reducing the surface area exposed. Does anyone know of such a wick with built-in support?
