Review on πŸ“Έ PYvideo Backup Camera for Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra (2007-2013) with Universal RCA Compatible Monitors - Black by Ken Lawson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great camera picture and the bezel looks like it was factory fitted to my truck. Potential camera alignment issues.

I installed this backup camera on my 2011 Silverado and it works great. The image was sharp on my aftermarket monitor/rear view mirror that I already had installed and used the license plate mounted camera which worked fairly well except I didn't have as accurate depth perception as I did with that camera because it was mounted higher of the truck, allowing for a better view ahead, rather than being almost flush with the hitch ball as was the case with my license plate mounted camera. I had another camera that I paid way less for about 2 years and it worked fine but the case was sun faded and looked rough. The tailgate handle frame fitted perfectly and was relatively easy to fit but you will need the right tools such as a torx bit to remove the rear spoiler to get to the inside of the tailgate and fish out the wire, a hole saw or a large drill . Bit to drill a hole in the bottom of the tailgate and the back of the bed to thread the wire through. It's a good deal considering the GM.Revision factory rear camera costs over $700; When I wanted to hook up my trailer with this new backup camera (which was the main motivation for buying a backup camera and I used a license plate mounted camera for years but wanted this camera for the purer OEM view) I found I had a lot of issues with it the orientation of the ball of the hitch trailer, which has never happened with my other backup cameras. Turns out the camera I got wasn't lined up exactly with the level in the body which made the rails not look like a truck (and I don't mean off center as they will be off center since the camera isn't in center mounted) but because of this, crazy as it sounds, it was very difficult to accurately secure and align the ball in front of the hitch, and since my hitch weighs over 200 pounds. it must be precisely aligned, otherwise the coupling cannot be connected. I removed the camera and was able to rotate the camera a bit within the frame of the tailgate handle it is in and line the camera up correctly. Unless you're trying to hook up a trailer like me, you might not notice it right away, or my problem is an isolated issue, but if you're having the same problem, now you know how to fix it.
