Review on 🔒 NETGEAR ProSAFE FVS318N Wireless-N VPN Firewall: 8-Port Solution with SSL and IPSec VPN (FVS318N-100NAS) by Ryan Eastman

A very affordable firewall. I like that I can close all outgoing ports except for the ports used by home users. If malware enters a computer from behind a firewall (e.g. by clicking a link in an email), it cannot connect to the C&C server, effectively shutting it down. Please note that this firewall is not a substitute for caution. It also has a full DMZ setup including a DHCP server in the DMZ. This is good if you have a home security system AND a DVR that you want to access remotely. I like the diagnostics feature that allows me to capture packets on the LAN, WAN or DMZ and then download and examine them with Wireshark. It has helped me get rid of all kinds of connection issues with different devices I have connected at home. I didn't have to use the VLAN or VPN feature, so I can't comment on that aspect of the product. The only downside is that this device is often very slow to respond via its HTTP management portal.
