Review on πŸ”Ή Meguiar's Diamond Cut Compound 2.0 | Mirror Glaze | 32 Fl. Oz. by David Burns

missing name but good product for oxidized fiberglass gelcoat

Like the previous reviewer, this item has no name, it's "85" Meguiar, not "80". That's good because I wanted 85 instead of 80. I've used a full liter of this product every year for 4 years on the oxidized gelcoat of a 12 year old 40ft fiberglass boat. it does a good job. I use a full size variable speed polisher, spinning slowly at around 2000-3000 RPM, starting with a new 9" wool hat each time, light to medium pressure. The reason I like using Meguiar's 85 is that the actual polish is pretty good. cuts through the oxidized layer of gelcoat (it's a red boat) without leaving swirls like other "aggressive" compounds in this category, but also doesn't cut so aggressively that I accidentally burn through the corners and edges. This is actually a plus for me, it cuts relatively slowly so it's very controllable which means my hands get pretty tired after holding the buff for a few days. I don't recommend it for polishing by hand, it's too slow, I should use a more aggressive traditional paste in corners and places where I can't penetrate with a polisher, then use "85" manually to remove traces of traditional paste to remove and allow them to mix well enough with polished surfaces. This does not require soap to remove polish residue like many other products so I can wipe away any residue with a rag when dry and then wax immediately after polishing without washing with soap and water which is good as I am on the Shipyard am Doing this job requires controlling all sewage, dust and liquids from the job site. hope this helps you with the decision.
